Lisa Price, Director of Cardio/Pulmonary and Neurosleep Services, has taken coaching to a new level with her employees:
I use my coaching in different ways during my day to day contacts with employees and physicians. Before Intrinsic Coaching™, I was pretty comfortable relying on my own skills and expertise. Therefore, "telling" people what to do was easy. With the intrinsic, I have been able to watch my staff grow into very capable and competent people. I say people because they’re growing not only as valuable staff, but in their personal lives as well. I recently asked a member of our staff what characteristics & skills were "valuable" at work. I made the conversation about their thinking instead of mine. I listened to what they had to say without interjecting what I thought. Several days passed and that employee called me from home, thanking me! During meetings I can ask the question, "what do we want" rather than “what is the goal or objective.” It is easier when we start with the want, then the systemic can follow!
Diffusing issues has taken on a new form. I no longer get nervous or anxious about meeting the doctor's needs. I can simply say, “Tell me what you want to happen; tell me what is most important to you” and off we go. No raised voices, no hurt feelings, it’s just done.
Working with the intrinsic means working with the unique, one of a kind nature of people even as the circumstances around us are constantly changing. Before I started Intrinsic™ Coaching I didn’t think there was enough time in the day to get things done using the Intrinsic Coach™ approach. Now, I know it’s actually a faster way to get results. I can't imagine not having that extra tool to use.
